Exercise
Chest-opening mobility drill using a resistance band to encourage shoulder control and thoracic extension.
Setup instructions
Stand or sit tall with the feet hip-width apart. Hold a resistance band behind the back with both hands at hip width. Position the hands wide enough on the band to create light tension. Grow tall through the spine and engage the core gently.
Breathing cues
Exhale to open. Inhale to hold. Exhale to release.
Movement steps
- 1Inhale to prepare in the start position.
- 2Exhale to pull the band apart behind the body, drawing the shoulder blades together.
- 3Lift the chest gently without arching the low back.
- 4Inhale to hold briefly at the open position.
- 5Exhale to release the tension and return with control.
Common mistakes
Arching the low back to open the chest; shrugging the shoulders; forcing painful shoulder range; using a band that is too strong; holding the breath.
