Exercise
Mat-based footwork pattern using a resistance band to mimic reformer-style leg work and knee tracking.
Setup instructions
Lie supine on the mat with knees bent and feet flat hip-width apart. Loop a resistance band around the balls of both feet, holding one end in each hand. Position the thighs at roughly ninety degrees with the shins vertical. Engage the core to keep the low back supported on the mat.
Breathing cues
Exhale to press. Inhale to return.
Movement steps
- 1Inhale to prepare in the start position.
- 2Exhale to press the feet forward against band tension, extending the legs.
- 3Pause briefly without locking the knees.
- 4Inhale to bend the knees and return with control.
- 5Repeat with even tempo and steady pelvic position.
Common mistakes
Arching the low back on the press; letting the knees fall inward; locking the elbows while holding the band; using a band that is too strong; holding the breath.
Safety notes
Choose a band resistance that allows full range with control. Stop if knee pain or sharp hip discomfort appears.

FAQs
Is Resistance Band Footwork suitable for beginners?
Yes. It mimics reformer footwork on the mat with band resistance. Choose a band strength that allows full range with control.
What muscles does Resistance Band Footwork work?
The quadriceps and glutes drive the leg press while the deep core maintains pelvic stability on the mat.
What is Resistance Band Footwork good for?
It builds lower-body strength and knee tracking before reformer footwork and chair foot press patterns.
