Standing or prone hamstring curl on the mat with a resistance band anchored in front for posterior-chain strengthening.

Setup instructions

Anchor a resistance band securely in front at ankle height. Option A: stand facing the anchor on the mat and loop the band around one ankle. Option B: lie prone on the mat facing the anchor with the band looped around one ankle. Hold a support if standing and engage the core before beginning.

Breathing cues

Exhale to curl. Inhale to extend.

Movement steps

  1. 1Inhale to prepare with the working leg extended.
  2. 2Exhale to bend the knee and curl the heel toward the glute against band tension.
  3. 3Pause briefly at the top without arching the low back.
  4. 4Inhale to extend the leg back to the start with control.
  5. 5Complete one side before switching legs.

Common mistakes

Arching the low back to gain curl height; letting the hip flex forward when standing; using a band that is too strong; rushing the return; holding the breath.

Safety notes

Keep the curl range pain-free and the pelvis stable. Stop if sharp hamstring strain or knee discomfort appears.

FAQs

  • Is Resistance Band Hamstring Curl suitable for beginners?

Yes. The front-anchored band makes the curl pattern easy to control standing or prone. Choose a band strength that allows smooth knee flexion.

  • What muscles does Resistance Band Hamstring Curl work?

The hamstrings drive the heel toward the glute while the glutes and deep core maintain pelvic stability.

  • What is Resistance Band Hamstring Curl good for?

It builds posterior-chain strength before bridge work, reformer hamstring patterns, and athletic leg conditioning.
