Exercise
Shoulder bridge variation with the feet on a studio wall to support foot placement and posterior-chain work.
Setup instructions
Lie supine on the mat with the shoulders near the wall and the feet placed on it. Bend the knees so the shins are roughly parallel to the floor. Place the arms by the sides with palms down or reach them overhead for support. Engage the core and press the feet evenly into the wall.
Breathing cues
Exhale to bridge. Inhale to hold. Exhale to lower.
Movement steps
- 1Inhale to prepare.
- 2Exhale to articulate the spine and lift the hips into a shoulder bridge.
- 3Press the feet into the wall and engage the glutes at the top.
- 4Inhale to hold with steady breath.
- 5Exhale to roll the spine back down with control.
Common mistakes
Placing the feet too high on the wall; overarching the low back; letting the knees fall inward; placing too much weight on the neck; holding the breath.
Safety notes

FAQs
Is Wall Shoulder Bridge suitable for beginners?
It is best treated as an intermediate progression. The shoulders bear more load than a standard bridge. Build neck comfort before attempting.
What muscles does Wall Shoulder Bridge work?
The glutes and hamstrings drive the hip lift while the deep core maintains spinal articulation with the feet pressing into the wall.
What is Wall Shoulder Bridge good for?
It builds posterior-chain strength and shoulder-bridge control before reformer shoulder bridge and tower bar work.
