Supine leg circles on the mat with a resistance band looped around one foot for hip mobility and control.

Setup instructions

Lie supine on the mat with one knee bent and foot flat, the other leg extended. Loop a resistance band around the ball of the extended foot and hold one end in each hand. Anchor the arms by the sides or toward the hips for light band tension. Find a neutral pelvis with the low back gently supported on the mat.

Breathing cues

Exhale on the effort phase. Inhale between circles.

Movement steps

  1. 1Inhale to prepare with the working leg lifted to a comfortable height.
  2. 2Exhale to trace a small circle with the foot against band tension.
  3. 3Complete several circles in one direction with controlled tempo.
  4. 4Reverse the circle direction with equal range.
  5. 5Switch legs and repeat.

Common mistakes

Making circles too large and rocking the pelvis; letting the low back arch off the mat; using a band that restricts smooth motion; rushing the circle tempo; holding the breath.

Safety notes

Keep the circles small until hip control feels clear. Stop if hip pinching or sharp low-back discomfort appears.

FAQs

  • Is Resistance Band Leg Circles suitable for beginners?

Yes. The band around one foot provides support and feedback during small circles. Keep the range modest until hip control feels clear.

  • What muscles does Resistance Band Leg Circles work?

The hip flexors and glutes control the circular leg path while the deep core maintains a neutral pelvis.

  • What is Resistance Band Leg Circles good for?

It builds hip mobility and control before mat leg circles, lower and lift, and reformer feet-in-straps work.
