Setup instructions

Anchor a resistance band securely at a low point to one side of the mat. Stand sideways to the anchor with feet hip-width apart. Hold the band with both hands at the low start position near the anchor hip. Engage the core and soften the knees before beginning.

Breathing cues

Exhale to draw. Inhale to return.

Movement steps

  1. 1Inhale to prepare in the low diagonal position.
  2. 2Exhale to pull the band diagonally upward across the body in a sword-drawing arc.
  3. 3Keep the hips stable and the spine long throughout the pull.
  4. 4Inhale to return to the low start with control.
  5. 5Complete one side before switching to face the opposite direction.

Common mistakes

Rotating from the arms alone without trunk organisation; locking the knees; using excessive band tension; letting the ribs flare; holding the breath.

Safety notes

Start with light band tension and a modest diagonal range. Stop if sharp shoulder or back discomfort appears.

FAQs

  • Is Resistance Band Sword Draw suitable for beginners?

It is best treated as an intermediate diagonal pull. Establish basic arm circle and hug a tree control before adding the sword draw pattern.

  • What muscles does Resistance Band Sword Draw work?

The shoulders and upper back drive the diagonal pull while the deep core maintains trunk stability against the low anchor.

  • What is Resistance Band Sword Draw good for?

It builds diagonal shoulder control and trunk organisation before bow and arrow, wood chop, and reformer arm work.

  • How is Resistance Band Sword Draw different from Resistance Band Bow and Arrow?

Sword draw pulls diagonally upward from a low anchor, while bow and arrow uses a chest-height anchor with a rotational pull back.
