Exercise
Supine hamstring curl with the feet on a studio wall to build posterior-chain control and knee flexion strength.
Setup instructions
Lie supine on the mat with the hips close enough to the wall to place both feet flat on it. Position the feet hip-width apart on the wall with knees bent at roughly ninety degrees. Rest the arms by the sides with palms down. Engage the core to keep the pelvis level before curling.
Breathing cues
Exhale to curl. Inhale to hold. Exhale to extend.
Movement steps
- 1Inhale to prepare in the start position.
- 2Exhale to bend the knees and slide the feet down the wall, drawing the heels toward the glutes.
- 3Pause briefly at the top of the curl with steady hamstring engagement.
- 4Inhale to hold with controlled breath.
- 5Exhale to extend the legs back to the start position with control.
Common mistakes
Lifting the hips excessively to cheat the curl; letting the knees fall inward; sliding the feet unevenly on the wall; rushing the extension; holding the breath.
Safety notes
Keep the curl range where the pelvis stays level. Stop if sharp knee, hamstring, or back discomfort appears.

FAQs
Is Wall Hamstring Curl suitable for beginners?
It is best treated as an intermediate progression. Master wall pelvic curl and bridge patterns first, then add the knee curl with a modest range.
What muscles does Wall Hamstring Curl work?
The hamstrings drive the knee flexion while the glutes and deep core maintain pelvic stability with the feet on the wall.
What is Wall Hamstring Curl good for?
It builds posterior-chain control and hamstring strength with wall support before reformer footwork and chair hamstring curls.
How is Wall Hamstring Curl different from Wall Hamstring Stretch?
Wall Hamstring Curl trains active knee flexion strength in a supine position, while Wall Hamstring Stretch is a standing flexibility drill with the heel on the wall.
