Setup instructions

Stand facing a studio wall and place one forearm on it at shoulder height. Position the elbow bent to roughly 90 degrees with the palm facing forward. Step the same-side foot slightly forward for stability. Grow tall through the spine and soften the knees.

Breathing cues

Exhale to rotate. Inhale to hold. Exhale to return.

Movement steps

  1. 1Inhale to prepare in the start position.
  2. 2Exhale to rotate the body gently away from the wall, opening the chest.
  3. 3Keep the forearm in contact with the wall and the shoulder relaxed.
  4. 4Inhale to hold briefly at a comfortable stretch.
  5. 5Exhale to return to centre and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Forcing rotation beyond comfortable shoulder range; hiking the shoulder toward the ear; overarching the low back; holding the breath; placing the elbow too high or low.

Safety notes

Keep the stretch mild and even. Stop if sharp shoulder pain or tingling appears.
