Exercise
Standing quad stretch at a studio wall with the hand on the wall for balance support.
Setup instructions
Stand sideways to a studio wall within easy reach. Place the hand closest to the wall on it at shoulder height for balance. Shift weight onto the leg closest to the wall. Bend the opposite knee and reach back to hold the foot or ankle.
Breathing cues
Exhale to draw the heel. Inhale to hold. Exhale to release.
Movement steps
- 1Inhale to prepare in standing.
- 2Exhale to draw the heel gently toward the glutes.
- 3Keep the knees close together and the hips facing forward.
- 4Inhale to hold briefly at a comfortable stretch.
- 5Exhale to release the foot and switch sides.
Common mistakes
Arching the low back to pull the foot closer; letting the knee drift outward; gripping the wall with full body weight; forcing painful knee flexion; holding the breath.
Safety notes
Use a strap around the foot if reaching the ankle is difficult. Stop if sharp knee pain or balance loss occurs.
