Standing chest expansion with a wall-anchored band to open the front body and strengthen postural extension.

Setup instructions

Anchor a resistance band securely to a studio wall at mid-torso height. Stand facing away from the anchor and hold one end of the band in each hand. Start with the arms forward at chest height and light band tension. Stand tall with feet hip-width apart.

Breathing cues

Exhale to open. Inhale to hold. Exhale to return.

Movement steps

  1. 1Inhale to prepare.
  2. 2Exhale to pull the arms back and open the chest.
  3. 3Keep the shoulders relaxed and the ribs from flaring excessively.
  4. 4Inhale to hold briefly in the open position.
  5. 5Exhale to return the arms forward with control.

Common mistakes

Over-arching the low back to open the chest; shrugging the shoulders; forcing the arms too far back; holding the breath; using band tension that pulls the trunk off balance.

Safety notes

Keep the expansion modest and controlled. Stop if shoulder pinching or sharp back discomfort appears.

FAQs

  • Is Wall Resistance Band Chest Expansion suitable for beginners?

Yes. The movement is slow and supported, making it easy to focus on opening the chest without forcing range.

  • What muscles does Wall Resistance Band Chest Expansion work?

The upper-back muscles retract the shoulder blades while the chest opens. The core prevents excessive rib flare and low-back arch.

  • What is Wall Resistance Band Chest Expansion good for?

It improves postural extension and chest opening before reformer chest expansion and strap pulling sequences.
