Exercise
Criss cross rotation on the mat with a resistance band for rotational control and oblique feedback.
Setup instructions
Lie supine on the mat with knees bent and feet flat. Hold a resistance band between the hands at chest height with light tension. Curl the head and shoulders off the mat with the hands behind the head or holding the band at the temples. Draw both knees toward tabletop.
Breathing cues
Exhale to rotate. Inhale to centre.
Movement steps
- 1Inhale to prepare in the curled position.
- 2Exhale to rotate the trunk and draw one elbow toward the opposite knee against steady band tension.
- 3Inhale to return to centre briefly.
- 4Exhale to rotate to the opposite side with controlled range.
- 5Continue alternating without rocking the pelvis.
Common mistakes
Pulling the neck forward with the hands; rotating beyond trunk control; letting the extended leg drop too low; using excessive band tension; holding the breath.
Safety notes
Master resistance band single leg stretch before adding rotation. Stop if sharp neck, back, or hip discomfort appears.

FAQs
Is Resistance Band Criss Cross suitable for beginners?
It is best treated as an intermediate abdominal series drill. Master single leg stretch before adding the rotational reach.
What muscles does Resistance Band Criss Cross work?
The obliques and deep abdominals drive the rotational reach while the hip flexors control the leg position against band tension.
What is Resistance Band Criss Cross good for?
It builds rotational abdominal control before mat crisscross and reformer rotation progressions.
How is Resistance Band Criss Cross different from Resistance Band Single Leg Stretch?
Criss cross adds a rotational elbow-to-knee reach, while single leg stretch alternates legs without trunk rotation.
