Exercise
Standing twist on the mat with a resistance band under the feet for controlled spinal rotation and trunk awareness.
Setup instructions
Stand tall on the mat with feet hip-width apart. Stand on the centre of a resistance band with one end in each hand at chest height. Hold the hands together or slightly apart with light band tension. Engage the core and grow tall through the spine.
Breathing cues
Exhale to rotate. Inhale to centre.
Movement steps
- 1Inhale to prepare in the forward-facing position.
- 2Exhale to rotate the trunk to one side against band tension.
- 3Keep the hips facing forward and the knees soft.
- 4Inhale to return to centre with control.
- 5Exhale to rotate to the opposite side with even range.
Common mistakes
Rotating the hips instead of the trunk; locking the knees; pulling the band so hard the shoulders hike; forcing painful rotation range; holding the breath.
Safety notes
Keep the rotation range modest and pain-free. Stop if sharp back or hip discomfort appears.

FAQs
Is Resistance Band Standing Twist suitable for beginners?
Yes. Standing on the band with the hands at chest height makes the rotation pattern easy to scale. Keep the hips facing forward.
What muscles does Resistance Band Standing Twist work?
The obliques and deep core drive controlled trunk rotation while the shoulders maintain steady band tension at chest height.
What is Resistance Band Standing Twist good for?
It builds accessible spinal rotation awareness before kneeling twist, wood chop, and reformer rotation progressions.
