Breathing cues
Exhale forward. Inhale back.
Movement steps
- 1Inhale to prepare in standing.
- 2Exhale to sweep the outside leg forward to a comfortable height.
- 3Inhale to sweep the leg back behind the body without arching the low back.
- 4Keep the hips level and the trunk steady throughout the arc.
- 5Continue the sweep with smooth, even tempo before switching sides.
Common mistakes
Swinging the leg with momentum; arching the low back on the back sweep; leaning heavily on the wall; letting the standing hip hike; holding the breath.
